Higher education in India,
i.e. graduation consisting of three/four years of study, is imparted on
completion of 12 years of school education, equivalent to graduation from
high schools in Vietnam. Masters or post-graduate programmes comprising two
years study on completion of graduation are also avaiable for overseas
students. Some foreign students, who have completed post-graduation, have
also been pursuing Ph.D. courses in India.The strength and benefits of
study in India lie in its strong network of 251 Universities, more than 8000
colleges affiliated to them, where nearly 5 milions students study every
year. English is the medium of instruction in all these institutions which
is an added advantage to the foreign students in understanding the technical
subjects and disciplines well and become professionals. The courses offered

cost of study in India is affordable compared to other destinations in the

The quality of education in India is monitored by National Committee for
Admission, National Committee for Assessment and Certification and
Association of Indian Universities.
In the field of Information Technology which is another strength of India
in recent years, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology
in the
Government of India has reserved seats for overseas students in several
colleges and unversities in the most of the disciplines.
More than 10,000 foreign students including more than 500 Vietnamese are
presently studying in India on a self-financing basis. In addition to the
Vietnamese students studying on self-financing basis, India also provides to
Vietnam every year around 20 scholarships for graduate and post-graduate
studies and 110 scholarships for short-term training courses. These applications are
generally processed through Ministry of Education & Training of Vietnam.
Education Consultants of India Ltd. (EdCIL), a state owned enterprise
under the Ministry of Human Resource Development of Government of India is
responsible for promotion of study in India. Applications for most of the
graduate and post-graduate courses in India including Arts, Science,
Commerce, Education, Law or M. Phill can either be made directly or through
EdCIL, by the overseas students. Admissions for engineering or technology
courses can also be sought against seats reserved for overseas students.
Visa regulation for students going to India for study are also very
simple. Students should apply for a student visa at Embassy of India in
Hanoi or at Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh city.
